Sea Odyssey street theater event in Liverpool in the north of England. The occasion was inspired by a letter written by a little girl to her father. He was a steward above the ill fated RMS Titanic which was registered in Liverpool. (via Kuriositas)
In this stunning photo captured by European Space Agency astronaut André Kuipers, the International Space Station orbits several hundred miles above the glowing city of Istanbul, an ancient city in Turkey that is home to more than 13 million people and is situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

From Experiments in Motion:
The Convenience of Machines and the Body in Motion
All good machines do work so we don’t have to. Or at least that was the thinking at the turn of the 20th Century, demonstrated here by these prototypical exercise machines. Like in an automobile or elevator, a motor facilitates motion allowing the body to be transported with minimal effort.
If the same notion is applied to exercise one would simply have to mount one of these contraptions and be whisked into shape! Sadly, motion alone doesn’t a muscle tone. It’s no coincidence that around this same time Eadweard Muybridge was documenting the human form in the performance of motion. His developments in photography is critical in our understanding of the relationship between position, movement and operation.
